Vice News interviewed Lucien Graves about the Oklahoma court’s decision to not allow a 10 Commandments monuments on the grounds of the state capitol in Oklahoma.
The Satanic Temple had previously sue for the right to erect a statue of Baphomet at the state capitol, arguing that religious freedom guarantees that if one religion is represented, all must be represented.
Now that the 10 Commandments statue is not going up, neither will the Baphomet statue, Graves explains. “The entire point of our effort was to offer a monument that would complement and contrast the 10 Commandments.” Atheistic Satanism strongly supports secular government and a complete separation of church and state. The Baphomet statue was offered only as a symbol of religious diversity and a contrast to the Christian symbol that it would have been standing next to.
